AU 2240 Brainstorming & Tech - Ideas for Bulk Web Item Updates & Settings 3/6/2012   Ideas for bulk web item updates and settings: (prices and show/hide options)
- We need a couple new global update pages for stock/units and part numbers.
- We need price settings on individual items (parts and stock/units). This could be things like: use current price (default), use cost, only use special price, use best price, use retail or msrp, use zero price, don’t show price, etc. These are just ideas.
- Every item needs a show/hide setting for the web.
- Things get a little bit interesting because we web service this info back and forth to the web services server. Think efficiency.
- I’m trying to prep for eCommerce… what else is needed?
- We had a request to be able to call the special price something – this may be a function of the price settings listed above or corp-wide settings (or both).
- We may need to update the web service documentation and notes (developer help file and page).
- A bulk management page with either checkboxes or drop-downs to help with the settings. Keep it really simple.
- Two new corp-wide settings for custom pricing. One for the full name and one for the short name. Examples: sale price, special price, internet price, blow out price, rock-bottom price, etc.
- Maybe we could tie in this new pricing feature to any kind of sales. Both internet and non-internet prices. This may require a date range to be applied. This may also include a one-to-many to help track changes.
- We need on or two new permissions for these global show/hide Internet settings. It may need some help with the name; we may need to break down the show/hide options and the pricing options into different permissions.
- What about promotion codes, sales, and elements of time.
- I have already promised some of these pieces… time may be an issue for what we need (right now) vs. what we want (over time).
- What about scale… are we talking 10-50 items or 50-500 or 500-5,000 items. What is the scale and how do we make sure that new changes are recorded and stored correctly? (Both locally and remotely)
- Some price settings (such as sale prices) may affect the normal flow and cart, quote, and invoice processes.
- If we need to, we could break this project into two main pieces. One is the show/hide setting and the other is the pricing. The show/hide options are pretty straight forward. The pricing could be a problem as it contains so many variables.
- Maintenance will become an issue. What about syncing up between the main application and the web services database.
- Keep it simple… we could always add on if needed.
- Make sure that all old and all new parts and stock/units get the new fields.
- (Local), (Main/Remote), (Web service/local), Web service/remote)
Add to all inv table:
Add to parts table:
Tables and details to add for the bulk part and stock/unit price settings:
New settings and fields for the corporations table:
-Need to run an update page to help with defaults on corp-wide settings

AU 2242 Other Needs: Deploy New Changes & Needs for Parts & Stock/Units 3/9/2012   Other methods that need attention:
Strategy to deploy new changes:
- Upload all remote files first
- Upload all adilas files next
- Run the extra/testing.cfm files on both servers. This could be cone after the fact or later.
Need for both parts & stock/units:
- Special price icon or maybe normal price with a strike through and then the new special price showing
- Global settings and reports. Make it easy to manage and easy to search
- What about a special page on the web – this would just be items that have special pricing, break out items for special web, best price, and cost
- Show on the stock-detail page and part detail page, only if different maybe also the show/hide web setting value
- Include it as an option on advanced searches and filters allow it to be part of the search criteria and part of the output

AU 756 Daily Ideas 3/15/2012   -On the current thumbnails – take off the height attribute and re-do all thumbnails.
-On the customer side – maybe link the thumbnail images right to the big photos, a friend’s idea.
-Go through and simplify the view parts page and the edit parts page. They have a lot of info that may not be required for edits and such. Having so many required page params is a hindrance to development on that section.
-On the customer we pages (eCommerce) – we may need a page that has or shows specials. Key off the web price settings. Maybe a section for special we price, best price and cost.
-Maybe pass back data in xml format instead of letting ColdFusion generate the data – this would make our methods more usable to other developers. Maybe a step further down the line. This could pass a param (ColdFusion, or xml) to the web services. If xml – convert and send back, use a sub function that converts a structure to xml.
Other ideas for adilas eCommerce:
-The price setting per item will either allow a sale or not.
-What about quantities on hand? How do we monitor that? Do we check the real site or do we just do it and sort things out later (like back orders, credits, refunds, etc.). For the record, it is always easier to check first and deny at the door rather than ask someone to leave what is already in and committed.
-Our goal is to provide the service; however, wherever possible we should also help our users learn to use good practices.
-Keep it ultra-simple – show a crumb trail.
-Use email and/or text messages.
-Have special reports for web sales.
-Treat all sales as customer invoices.
-Allow customers to login via the customer id and email address tied to that customer.
-I want to provide some simple buttons that allow a customer to create basic things like a quote, restore to cart, save as…(new quote), statement, pay a bill, real cart check-out, check on outstanding invoices.
-Allow customer HTML to be assigned to parts and stock/units. This could be links to movies, tables with rates, calendar graphics, virtual tours, sub navigation, additional verbiage, headers, footers, special notes, etc. Think anything custom. It could be added before or after an item – or both allow 1-many, allow before or after settings, allow for sorting. Basically, mini snippets or wrappers. Other ideas – links to like products, promotions, ratings, testimonials, availability, reminders, colors, sizes, options, recommendations, waivers, forms, checklists, rosters, syllabus, course work, coupons for local businesses, updates, closures, etc. (General customer web feature. Customer HTML per item.)

We also talked quite a bit about a company and what they are looking for. We talked about using the flex grid to hold all attributes of products and doing advanced look-up based on multi-flex grid searches, good stuff!

AU 757 Daily Ideas 3/20/2012   -Need a link on the printable-income –statement.cfm page back to the start page and maybe a refine your search button to pass values back to the correct page (either basic or advanced search).
-I was doing some tax stuff and needed a break-down report on expenses. Basically a grouped report by vendor/payee and then a break-down by expense type plus aging. I needed an export to Excel and a refine your search options. We already know about this, just haven’t had time to get it done yet.
-Need a default master time template setup for every corp. It needs to be very basic and very simple to use. If they want more, make them set-up their own templates.

AU 758 Daily Ideas 3/21/2012   Notes from meeting:
o Potential problems and issues: connection speed, cache on the remote computer, changing a stock number (it only changed it locally or on the adilas side), corp0wide settings and show/hide on the web, unlimited parts didn’t show-up, may have a disconnect on editing a port number.
o We need wrappers to handle HTML content.
o We need better sync-ups between adilas main and adilas web services.
o More settings for the web including make, model and other words.
o Make it easier to deal with.
o Need captions for stock/unit photo galleries.

AU 759 Daily Ideas 3/26/2012   -We need to provide updates on what we are working on and what is new.
-We need a payables rework – we need to break things into 0-30, 30-60, 60-90, 90-180, 180-360, and over 360 for aging.
-We need a section for sales and promotions that are tied to time, dates and even small segments of time.
-Lots of requests to be able to change the thumbnail images. Also take off the force on the height.
-We are also getting more requests for MS Excel, MS Word, PDF, jpg, etc. People want to store different kinds of content.
-We are getting more and more requests for the custom report builder functionality. The old form of this was called “mend and repair” in the old system.
-On the flex grid – we need the ability to set specific data types per field. These are things like text, date, numeric, Boolean, etc. That way we could do calculations, ranges, etc. Things that you can’t do with text fields directly. Just an idea, we could run data through a conversion type function (force apples to apples) and then do some sorting or filtering. We could also create and use temp tables if it got to that point (convert, filter, report, destroy the temp). This could be done over and over or we could figure out a more permanent solution. My goal as the developer would be to make the solution be as light as possible so that every record didn’t have to carry a huge extra data burden (tons of unused fields, flags and indexes). Keep it light and quick.
