Ideas for bulk web item updates and settings: (prices and show/hide options) - We need a couple new global update pages for stock/units and part numbers. - We need price settings on individual items (parts and stock/units). This could be things like: use current price (default), use cost, only use special price, use best price, use retail or msrp, use zero price, don’t show price, etc. These are just ideas. - Every item needs a show/hide setting for the web. - Things get a little bit interesting because we web service this info back and forth to the web services server. Think efficiency. - I’m trying to prep for eCommerce… what else is needed? - We had a request to be able to call the special price something – this may be a function of the price settings listed above or corp-wide settings (or both). - We may need to update the web service documentation and notes (developer help file and page). - A bulk management page with either checkboxes or drop-downs to help with the settings. Keep it really simple. - Two new corp-wide settings for custom pricing. One for the full name and one for the short name. Examples: sale price, special price, internet price, blow out price, rock-bottom price, etc. - Maybe we could tie in this new pricing feature to any kind of sales. Both internet and non-internet prices. This may require a date range to be applied. This may also include a one-to-many to help track changes. - We need on or two new permissions for these global show/hide Internet settings. It may need some help with the name; we may need to break down the show/hide options and the pricing options into different permissions. - What about promotion codes, sales, and elements of time. - I have already promised some of these pieces… time may be an issue for what we need (right now) vs. what we want (over time). - What about scale… are we talking 10-50 items or 50-500 or 500-5,000 items. What is the scale and how do we make sure that new changes are recorded and stored correctly? (Both locally and remotely) - Some price settings (such as sale prices) may affect the normal flow and cart, quote, and invoice processes. - If we need to, we could break this project into two main pieces. One is the show/hide setting and the other is the pricing. The show/hide options are pretty straight forward. The pricing could be a problem as it contains so many variables. - Maintenance will become an issue. What about syncing up between the main application and the web services database. - Keep it simple… we could always add on if needed. - Make sure that all old and all new parts and stock/units get the new fields. - (Local), (Main/Remote), (Web service/local), Web service/remote) Add to all inv table: Add to parts table: Tables and details to add for the bulk part and stock/unit price settings: New settings and fields for the corporations table: -Need to run an update page to help with defaults on corp-wide settings (See scans in photo gallery for 3/6/12) |
